16th November – 16th December 2009 For students interested in natural resources management, livelihoods and rural development issues and practice STUDENT INFORMATION In partnership with Satya Wacana Christian University (Salatiga, Indonesia) and Nusa Cendana University (Kupang, Indonesia), Charles Darwin University is offering Australian students an in-country field intensive in eastern Indonesia. Students will work on real problems in rural communities in eastern Indonesia, during a 2 week field studies placement in West Timor, Indonesia. In addition, there will be compulsory pre-and post-trip activities undertaken online. The unit will be taught collaboratively during the field intensive by staff from all three universities. Students will gain cultural awareness and confidence in different community settings with fellow Australian and Indonesian students across a range of backgrounds, skills and experiences (e.g. natural resource management, microfinance, health, education, social, policy). The program emphasises ethical practice and leadership working in cross-cultural environment. Indonesian students will have valuable opportunities to improve their English skills, while Australian students with an interest in Indonesian language will have the opportunities to improve their skills - both written and oral.
