Australia supports establishment of Nusa Cendana University`s medical faculty

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The Australian government supported establishment of Nusa Cendana University`s Medical Faculty which would be operated as of next year, a local official has said.

"To materilaize the support, Australia`s Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer will meet East Nusa Tenggara`s governor on Monday (Sept 3)," head of the social promotion office of the East Nusa Tenggara provincial secretariat, Sentianus Medi, said here Sunday.

Medi said the concrete support from the Australian government to the establishment of the medical faculty would be known after the meeting between the Australian ambassador and the East Nusa Tenggara governor.

"The Australian government has been committed to taking part in making the establishment of the medical faculty in Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara`s capital) a success," he said.

I Gusti B. Arjana, assistant I to the Nusa Cendana University, earlier said Medical School Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, had offered a curriculum for the medical faculty to Nusa Cendana University (Undana).

Early June, Undana Rector Prof. DR. Frans Umbu Datta visited Adelaide in connection with the curriculum offer.

"Efforts have been made both at home and abroad to set up the medical faculty," Arjana said.

He pointed out that the provincial administration and Undana had intensively made preparations for the establishment of the medical faculty.

The main factors to run the medical faculty include a curriculum, academic staff, a laboratory, a library, a training hospital, class rooms and buildings.

In an effort to reach the goal, Undana set up cooperation with the medical collegiate council, the Health Ministry, medical professionals, experts from the medical faculties of Hasanuddin University (South Sulawesi), Airlangga University (East Java) and University of Indonesia as well as foreign universities.
